Why is this even possible?

Whoops, looks like you didn't prospect that spot, so now this minehole is essentially worthless!
Have fun!

It really sucks but if you build a rowboat so that you can drop and immediately get into it, you might still be able to use this mineshaft

Hilariously, I was able to transport a cart downward, though it can't move from the square with the ladder. Also you can pull carts while in boats.
This mostly just makes the mine a gigantic pain in the ass to secure now, as well as very frustrating to use.

At least you can number yourself the first Boatcarter, Maybe make the Boatcart your villages banner xD but yeah that really sucks.

Oof, this is probably a bug, I think I've been prevented from doing this in the past.

Old news (by at least a year). It could have been worse though.

Why is this even possible?

If prospecting will warn about water below, and I think it is/will, its a feature.

We complain about stupid features all the time. If this is a feature, it's a dumb one.

So. Did I say one could not complain about features one thinks are stupid !
I kinda linked up an older relate topic. (Yea, who ever invented links should probably be burned at a stake - or spit roasted perhaps)

Sevenless wrote:If this is a feature, it's a dumb one.

And what feature would that be.
The fact that the game allows one to make a mine hole above water if one wishes to do so ?
Or that the game also gives one the means to check if there is water below, in case one like to know ? (Presuming prospecting will do so. As I'm sure you would have said so if that was not the case)

Not checking if one is accidentally and unintentionally placing a mine hole about water seems the more dump, and generally lazy user, part in all of this.

Potential solution seems kind simple. Some message perhaps when placing a mine hole that notifies one that there is no solid ground below.
(Althoug that might be the road to this. - Make me wonder how bad I'em now at Q3A)

Or would just disallowing the placements of mine holes above water be the more appropriate solution in your (personal and humble) opinion.

In past worlds (like maybe world 10? can't remember exactly when it last worked) it used to be that building a minehole over deep or shallow water would create a 4x4 or 5x5 (or 3x3?) cave tile paving around the ladder and in this way you could effectively remove underground water sources by building and destroying mineholes over the water until it is completely gone.

This was the only screenshot I could find of that:

I did a quick search in the announcements for "minehole" and "water" but I did not see anything that noted when this changed, so it was either changed unintentionally or someone forgot to add it to a patch note at some point.
