Now I think that a lot of items lack the stacking ability. And I understand that creating 3-4 designs for each one of them is a lot of work.
I mean, like mushrooms for example, you have tons of them, build cupboards for each type of those. And it's just a pain to manage.
Hence, The storage bin :
Mechanics
A storage bin allows for only one kind of items to be stacked in it - if you put chicken eggs in it you can't add magpie eggs.
It has much more room than a cupboard (n units), but doesn't allow sorting / managing its contents.
What you put in the storage bin could be retrieved in a LIFO way (last in, first out) or maybe the quality of its content is averaged, and you retrieve one or a specific quantity from it.
I'd say that the storage bin shouldn't be liftable when there are items inside.
Appearance
Maybe like the compost bin in appearance, except closed so that not much design variations are needed.
Also it could have a little image on the front, like those wood signs, or barrels, showing what the bin contains.
A visual sign of the quantity of item stored would be great, just like stockpiles.
