Titles of professions

It would be cool to be able achieving titles for achivments that you got for everyone visible with your name (for example Fisherman Baelin, Miner Gimli, Blacksmith Hephaistos, ...)

The initiation of the idea is, that when you live in a village, you most likely start choosing some profession, finishing credos and be a help to the village. So miners go mining, farmer go farming and hunter hunt, etc. When there are only 3 people in your village that's nice and you can perfectly talk to each other, who can do what best. But: the more people live in a village, the more confusing it starts to become, not loosing track of who specialised in what. Worse, to visit a befriended village where you have kined the people, but rarely talk with them exept of a hand full. So if you are looking for the local tailor it would be a great help if additional to the name of a person their profession would be showed, too.

That's the one point. It would also value credos more if you get a title after completing one ;) I mean, it's nice to tell your friends that you survived the normad, but would be a lot more awesome to be able to show it off a little bit ;D

The easiest way for it would probably be to link a title with the completion of a credo, but maybe there are some other possibilities, too, like a title for the village leader, king or queen of a kingdom, or warrior, explorer, tracker, etc. for exceeding a certain amount of stats.

I guess there is still lots of space to work that idea out more detailed :D"

Suggestion: Lawspeaker (or villagers with priviledge for it) should be able to hand out cosmetic titles to villagers.

I don't like the idea of labeling hearthlings.

+1 to is. In the hands of a noob or a casual, it could give away one's utility to an enemy. In the hands of a elite power player and/or a hermit, it could used as a tool of disinformation to lull others into a false sense of security. "Oh, neat, you're a carpenter. What kind of quality boards... Hmmm, those duds under your coat sure looks quite shin- OH GOD, THAT BATTLEAXE ISN'T MADE OF WOO...!! *dead*" As presented by my expert dramatization, what would be to stop one from getting several titles, presenting oneself as an innocuous craftsman, but have the stats to One-Punch Man everyone on the server. I mean, sure, you could set it up to show ALL your titles, but again, this again just makes titles moot and makes the idea pretty much programming bloat at the end of the day.

Besides, who wants to get stuck with a label anyhow? Just because you're the primary tailor/hunter/carpenter/fisherman/etc. for the village doesn't always mean a player plays just that one role, and could very well be the backup to another role, or just had to fill the role because no one else would and they really wanted to do something else, or, again, you could be a hermit and have to do EVERYTHING for yourself.

Titles are simply unnecessary. :ugeek:

What if they were fun titles, like if you get stomped on by a bear you could get "BearRug" or something? LOL I know, I'm not very creative, tis example. And we could pick and choose the title I think as well.

Titles, as a form of showing off random, useless achievements, have always been fun to me. Titles, as a form of showing off professions, in a game like Haven... yeah, I'm with Jinx on this one. Not worth the effort.

I think at this point, it would have to be mostly an achievement thing, which I'm not entirely against. I don't think other people should be able to assign them to you, but you should be able to change them any time from a dropdown list in the kins menu. They should also only show up to people you have kinned or other people from the same village as you.
Of course you could still get titles like carpenter from completing an associated credo but it would be entirely at your discretion to display this to other people. Other titles could be unlocked by doing other tasks. male/female could have stupid titles like mister or miss, killing a criminal could give you the title of manhunter, placing a village claim could give you the title of lord, etc. strangers don't get to see your title as they don't know you.

it is entirely pointless but sounds like it could be fun

Thank you for the good description :) that's what I wanted to explain^^ could also be from fishing (nearly) every existing fish, chopping every kind of tree, hunt certain animals, etc. but thought to bind it to credos would be the simplest form of it. And of course it should be able to change the title or hide it completly and show it only to befriended hearthlings :) probably you could allow or disable it with the kin-color-function to be seen by others.

if you don't have the option to hide your title and profession it will also get pretty annoying I played games where I've had title as blacksmith and I honestly get heckled and harassed the make shit for people when I'm not in the mood I don't think it's a good idea either
