Generic seeds

Postby valeriesusanne » Tue Aug 10, 2021 7:33 pm

Here's my idea - I didn't see it mentioned, but admit I didn't read all 300+ pages of ideas :P

How bout a mechanic where you can combine seeds from different crops into generic "seeds" useful only for planting grass, or maybe recipes that call for "crop seeds."
There is a similar mechanic where different types of milk (cow, goat, etc) when mixed, become simply "milk" so the idea is not so far fetched or complicated.
Seems like it would be a fairly easy mechanic to throw in for those of us who like to plant grass :)

I like this idea, because I always end up with large amounts of leftover seeds from different crops that I like to save to plant grass, and it would be
nice to be able store them all in one barrel.

Thanks for considering!

(and, it would also prevent you from accidentally planting a crop in a space you meant to plant grass in; maybe I'm the only one stupid enough to have done this?)

I mean... Can't you already put seeds in barrels? Or do you mean you'd like to mix them to save on storage space? Yea, I could see that being helpful. One issue that I can see though is, if you go to plant them like regular seeds (Not "plant grass"), what kind of plant would it produce? And also, if it doesn't plant anything, I can see the potential for griefing or accidents when someone comes by and drops a single poppy seed into your barrel of cucumber seeds, effectively transforming 100L of cucumber seeds into "seeds"
Mixing milk is relatively harmless considering that all milk serves the same function. I think some kind of contraption to convert seeds into specifically grass seeds would serve the purpose better - that way you could still keep a barrel of seeds only for grass, but they have to be processed first

Ok, well, you put a lot more thought into this than I did! I hadn't thought about the griefing issues, or accidents. I'm very accident prone -
I could absolutely see myself turning a whole barrel of nice flax seed into grass - no griefer required! Good point.
I was just trying to think of a convenient way to store large quantities of low q and leftover seeds in such a way that didn't involve eight barrels or three granaries.
Thanks for the input :)
