Distilling Salt Walter should make Salt as a by-product too. Not Salt Crystal, something akin to pepper.

And then there could be a symbel Salt Shaker, tag salt as a Spice for recipes, etc.

Despite having salt as a spice seems most logical use, adding yet another spice to the game sounds like help cancer growth.
Salt can be usefull for anything else: curiosities, tanning, soapmaking, food recipes (not a buff but ingredient), salt lick for animals, salting earth during raid for long term griefing purposes.

Maybe as material for a "Box of Salted Meat". Stockpile for meat. Infinite capacity ofc.
