Smoked Cheese

Postby Asor » Tue Dec 21, 2021 1:02 am

I listened to the livestream and I agree that smoked cheeses are a bad idea. It is another step on an already lengthy complicated process. Who would want to eat smoked banon anyway. With that being said there is one cheese that makes sense in both rl and game logic, smoked gouda. Currently there is no use for gouda, it is a failed item and I have always dropped it.

With this recipe it would have a use, lessening the frustration. The gouda should also perhaps have a quicker maturation, perhaps it's old 36 hour or 72 hours.

Agree about smoked cheese are bad idea. Probably it is such a special local thing that I never even heard of such. When I googled it figures that only certain kinds of cheese are getting smoked, no hafen analogies among them. I recently rewatched the ways most popular cheeses are getting served for presentation and guess what - not a single smoked cheese again. Here it is if you are curious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTgm36y884c
So maybe if smoked Gauda is a thing it may get second life other than being a tiny snack for con2, but other hype around making hafen cheese smokable is lame, don't see any reason to drag it there, big fat NO

Instead of requiring Osycpek be smoked after its 73 hours on the rack. Make it the result of smoking Zamorano. 200 hours saved.

Nah man cheeses are already such a long process, but not an immediately overwhelming one. No one complains about cheese making, and chucking a bunch of cheese into a sausage sauna wouldn't be too excessive at all, if and only if, the cheeses were exceptionally dank. I don't think cheese is that bad, I greatly enjoy my cheese harvests.

I actually really like this idea and I'm going to try to revive this thread.

Smoked cheese that would be some insane but obscure shit with different wood combos? All rng for that discovery bit. Say you turn Jorbonzola to psyche with some laurelwood. And as super high time cheeses are already extreme, would it really be that op?

definitely a no for normal cheeses, but smoking useles gouda is great idea. would also be nice if it was designed so that almost every kind of tree gave different result. no need for op-ness here, even hunger reduction to 0.6 would do wonders

I second this, let cheese be even more versatile. Save for RNG options- cooking needs that simplification so its finally intuitive as a system.
