make mammoths more common

make mammoths more common

Postby MadNomad » Mon Mar 28, 2022 12:28 pm

currently you can maybe get anywhere from 0 to 8 mammoths per day if you check the snowy part of mountain(multiple times per day) that takes tiny percentage of whole mountain area this world, so maybe you will have a constant supply of ivory figurine for one character if you spend a significant amount of time, but you can only dream about supplying 5 characters considering the extremely short study time!

Mammoths, like many other animals, are affected by some hidden(?) variable that influences their spawn. When that stupid variable is enabled, mammoths spawn like crazy (to the extent of which they spawn even outside the mountains).

An example of this stupid variable where it is not hidden, is the full moon, which makes wolves spawn.
If the mammoth variable is not a hidden one, feel free to correct me.

Nevertheless, you shouldn't bother hunting them too much if you're not able to find one in that day. If you do, keep looking, chances are there's many more.

I'm afraid this is simply a case of lack of understanding on ingame mechanics!

even the wiki in all of its lack of information can tell you that mammoths spawn in many biomes, not just mountain!

this world we encountered literally TOO MANY MAMMOTHS TO KILL living amongst 1 or 2 of these biomes

they are very prevalent and due to their potential for high quality and the usefulness of their bones, I think they are appearing more than often enough!

a big -1 !!!

Increasing mammoths spawn is a great idea but until jorb and loftar get an angel investor to cover their living expenses while they create their masterpiece, they'll have to restrict themselves to short working schedules. Such is a fact of life. I'd love to live in a utopian society where we can all pursue our dreams*, but we don't, and our overlords demand of us a certain amount of labor a week to maintain sustenance and shelter. Everyone has to make their own decisions on how to best fulfill their lives. Sometimes that's making a grand work of art, other times that's having family or career.

I think that ideas should be in the realm of practical. I don't know how jorb and loftar's thoughts have changed over the years on working with a team on Haven, but it's always been "their project." It's not the first and not going to be the last indie game like this. I think ideas should respect such decisions--if there isn't a desire to expand the team, then ideas should reflect that value and be supportive of it.

I don't want to discourage anyone's ideas. Sometimes the greatest spark for inspiration can come from the strangest places. Some folks, me being one of them, holds themselves back for "what's practical." Others can aim for the stars and be happy when they just get ahead a few steps.

*not... this is what got us some of the worst societal systems. Capitalism, much like democracy, sucks for creating stable, peaceful societies, but there isn't a better system currently in existence that still allows the level of freedom to pursue one's dreams.

in these other biomes they are even more rare, which does not help the case

I've got the impression that on snowy parts of mountains they are more common than somewhere else, but that might be just my imagination

This is very untrue! I believe you may have simply experienced some unfortunate luck my friend!

I wish you better luck in finding mammoths in the future!

-1, mammoths should be rare, too many and you endanger the sprucecap population.

mammoths appear usually in mountains and very rarely on grasslands, sprucecaps often live in forests where mammoths do not spawn in grasslands where they are rare. This suggestion does not hurt sprucecaps I think!

also sprucecaps can build a mountain trap, get 30 ua and q30 bronze sword and a horse and slay the mammoths to progress in game!

Be honest - you a just get bored or lazy. Mammoths are land bosses of the game, like trolls are underground and whales are sea. And in game are not spawning so often, because fighting with them are great challenge with great reward. I think devs are not design them for non stop killing with using 'not bugs'. At least pretend that you respect their point of view.
