"unlock" mine levels through exploration

Postby iamahh » Fri Jul 29, 2022 3:04 pm

this won't fly, but maybe something is useful:

- Mine Holes cost the same materials on all levels
- Character must "unlock" level by finding a "way" to the next one
- Once a char unlocked the level he can build a hole anywhere

The coolest way IMO to find a way to next level would be navigating rivers and sliding waterfalls to the next level.
This could have some cool animations, maybe even some stats checking(or good luck).
Player would either succeed or break canoe and wake up somewhere along the coast.

+1 people start mass steel production way to early into the world. In w13 we had people with steel weapons like 3 weeks into the game. With it being harder to get to lower levels people will be stuck with sucky Chalcopyrite longer and with intermediate stages longer. Won't be able to go right to the iron grind.

I don't think finding lower levels of the caves should be based around what is effectively a luck mechanic. You already have that issue on certain mine levels if you end up without a black ore region nearby.

mine levels would be better unlocked on strict time gates

there is absolutely no reason that anybody should be on level 7-8-9 within a month or two

Yup, the global "earthquake opens up a new cave level" -event is a far superior idea.
