Duels are useless to teach pvp and actively make you worse

Postby overtyped » Sat Aug 27, 2022 3:09 am

This is my letter to the noobish PvEr's known as Jorbtar

Dearest Jorbtar, first I want to say, the reason this topic has not come up is because the good pvpers are happy with the status quo, namely the continued dirth of competition, while the casuals remain oblivious.

I can't teach anyone to pvp in duels because armor SOAK+DEFLECT doesn't factor in, which is so different than how actual pvp is, that you can learn nothing from dueling. Infact duels make you worse, because it gives you a retarded view of how actual pvp works.
In a duel, it's very easy to do big damage with low openings, which is not the case at all in actual pvp. If you do this in actual pvp, you will get MAULED. Duels create more jorbs and loftars, not more real pvpers.

Even if you delude yourself into believing duels have made you better, you'll be laid flat against pvpers that know how to ACTUALLY pvp, EVERY time.
All you have to do is create two duel options: (spar with armor) (spar without armor)Make armor factor into duels, but don't let it take damage, please.

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

it does count armor in though
What amazes me more than how light the punishment was, is how nothing was done about it ingame. I'm actually starting to think people are frightened that you'll do it again, so to protect the server, they work with you instead of going against you, all in the hopes that you will leave the server alone.

You don't get soak/deflect.

Since they expanded Valhalla, you could probably have a semi-realistic wargame there.

Before that, I floated around the idea of having to build two alt villages with basic amenities and having people fight with expendable rage alts against each other to practice.

Don't think they added kritters so valhalla is just as useless as before

Didn't they completely rework armor into being only Hard Soak and Soft Soak, meaning deflection doesn't exist anymore?
