It's crucial to have quests for claim and palisade

Postby Fostik » Fri Sep 09, 2022 9:52 am

At the start of this world I am seeing dozens if not hundreds newbies that is just building their shit bases without claim and palisade.
There should be the quest that forces you to claim, make leather, rope and glue, and build a palisade.

Without it, new people joined to the game are just leaving being griefed without understanding why did it happen, and realizing that it can be prevented quite simply.

I understand that community are rather like to see people being sifted and surviving in hearthlands, but on the other hand game should not only be accessible for people who were lucky to find ringofbrodgar website or join some decent game discord.

+1
I can't believe after 12 years of development there isn't any viable in-game tutorial for beginners

Ofc it's fun to kill and raid spruces to make them leave the game, but.. it's not good for player population

-- Update --
Don't forget to force them to expand claim a few tiles further than palisade wall. Just to avoid segment cascade feature which is very well designed mechanic

at what point do we stop hand holding? if people want to be oblivious and get in to the game with out reading up on any of the player made tutorials they deserve to learn through failure.
see homo sexuality trending,. do not do that.

it's a game, you play it for fun not to suffer from required grinding, bugs, unknown mechanics etc.

I think the answer for that question is quite simple for most games nowadays: all assets people builds in MMORPG should be considered as player base and remain untouched or highly complicated to raid/grieve. Otherwise the time and effort required to build and support everything does not worth to play it. Inb4 of course if base development is high effort activity and requires a lot of time.

At the same time exiting base to get unique resources is always a risk, especially in high risk high profit areas like coasts.

Don't confuse providing vital information with handholding. There is absolutely no way to figure out importance of palisade and how mandatory it is unless you are using third party guides. Its not intuitive at all that stone fence is completely cosmetic while palisade is impenetrable defence that requires siege engines to breach.

That's hard to say, but at the very least it's somewhere beyond learning the very basics of the game such as how claims and palisades work.

This is indeed what happened frequently during first week of w8 when initial Palisade cornerpost only cost 100 woodblocks.

There's like two updated tutorials. One on combat that's woefully lacking PVP info and one on claim safety that's not even pinned. There's a lot of outdated, unpinned stuff that you'd need to dig deep into "How Do I?" to find. Nothing updated for industry, food, day 1/week 1 progression, etc. I can't imagine picking up this game and playing as a hermit in its current state. You pretty much need a mentor or actively post your failures in discord/the forums to learn.
