Replace stone axe mining

Right now, in order to mine quality you're always forced back to mining with the stone axe. This feels bad from a progression point of view, being forced to use the first tool you make when you have 500 strength and can smash layers 1-4 like butter. It looks bad from an animation point of view. And it feels bad because of how incredibly slow you mine with it.

Actual example for previous gen qualities: Q113 pickaxe, Q160 stone axe, Q135 Anvil set, Q140 metal, Q105 branch

Suggestion: Prospector's Pick, Any metal + stick, crafted on anvil.

Quality in this scenario: (((105+140)/2)*9 + 135*7)/16 = 127.9 prospector's pick

In order to make this new item optimal, nerf the stone axe to be 75% effective quality for mining, and give the prospector's pick 125% effective quality. This would give Q113 pick, Q120 stone axe, Q159.9 prospector pick for the effective mining quality. A small speed boost might not be bad, but I think this would still "feel" better from a psychology point of view.

The problem with stone axe mining to me is primarily the speed at which it happens vs a pickaxe. This would not necessarily solve my grievances. Mining with the stone axe feels like a glacial, agonizing task that you are desperately pleading for your miner Pulverize to proc.

Should definitely get a speed boost compared to the stone axe, but it shouldn't outstrip the pickaxe for sure.

The problem is stone axe will ALLWAYS have q better than a pickaxe. Digging with pickaxe means softcapping your ores and stones which sucks and people will only ever use pickaxe for tunelling. I think mining with axes should be completely obsolete as soon as you get access to pickaxe. If every stone mined with axe would lose lets say 50% of their q that would do it.

Seven lines of text, that's super brief for me, still they don't read.

I just don't understand why we need new item when we can nerf stone axe/buff pickaxe and call it a day.

Eh I think another tool sounds nice. Sure, ya could just nerf stone axes or buff picks, but variety is a good thing. Also, it makes sense to me that a small precise metal tool for the extraction of ore would exist.

Either way is fine, I just hope Jorbtar note something down from this & come up with something.

I like it how it is.
Not like it happens often enough to be a big problem.
Also it allow you to not completely rage if you're not able to find good hard metal node for a long time.
In your scenario I would be completely fucked for exemple :)

Bronze appears very easy to come by this world probably because its basically a mandatory step before you can smelt iron.
