Timer on taking out cheese trays & hides

When you take eggs out of a coop, they don't instantly die - their hatching progress is saved for some time, so if you took the egg out by mistake you can still put it back and nothing is lost.
Could the same mechanism be introduced for cheese trays with cheese / hides on drying racks / hides in a tanning tub? If you accidentally take out a jorbonzola from a cheese rack, up to a week of progress on it can be lost.
Same with troll hides / leather.
There should be a short window of time where you can put stuff back in and it continues to progress.
