Why can't I breed small animals?

Moles?
Squirrels?
Rats?

Why can't I breed these and push their quality in the rabbit hutch? Why's it gotta be a rabbit hutch, why not "Small animal hutch?"

I'd love to be able to pump out some killer 9-tails and foragers brooches with my genetically engineered squirrel tails.

I don't know, rats are just a really shitty early game food. Squirrel tails really don't have many specific uses other than curios, and I don't want them to personally. Same thing with moles. Rabbits at least have sausages and stuff
