Slot for Hammer in Anvil

One of our villagers mentioned an idea which I think is awesome.
Maybe it was already mentioned but anyway.

It would be cool if the anvil had a slot in which the hammer could be placed.
That way, you wouldn't need to take the hammer into your inventory and the values would be still added.

What do you think?

Could be a craftable upgrade for the anvil, similar to putting a spitroast on a fire. couple of pouches to strap around the middle.
of course by the time you have an anvil any reasonable material cost to make this would be negligible. it'd have to be something along the lines of a few hardened leather and some finer fibre to even be considered a 'cost'

Just make it "right click hammer on to the anvil" and the anvil now has a hammer lying on top of it that you use automatically?

We've been asking for this for half a decade.

A few weeks back I asked Jorb for this and the alchemy table and his reply ignored the anvil and said "doesn't the alchemy table already do that?"

So it's entirely possible, they're aware of the desires for it, but they haven't done anything

The alch table does actually do that, technically, but it doesn't accept the mortar and pestle lol.
