Farmer Credo needs looked at

Postby squeezy102 » Tue Oct 18, 2022 12:31 pm

Playing with friends, my first world, first hearthling, loving the game. Played lots of survival games, this one's my favorite by far. I love the likeness to life, and the attention paid to processes. I love feeling like I'm actually doing the work.

That said, I chose to be the farmer in our group, and its been kind of a drag watching my friends complete credo after credo after credo (my buddy finished up nomad last night!) while I sit here and wait for crops to grow to finish my farmer credo.

I doubt the intention of the farmer credo was to be 5x as long as any other credo. I've gotten so many quests that were like "wait for 64 pumpkins to grow" and "plant 75 peppercorns" and a bunch of other quests that take FOREVER to complete.

I'm not sure if the # of quests needs to be tuned down, or the # of crops you need to plant/harvest needs to be tweaked, or what needs to be done -- but this is by far the longest credo to complete, and it isn't close.

Seems like Nomad should be much much longer than Farmer due to the insane benefits it gives you -- but nope. My buddy completed all of the credos leading up to nomad, and nomad itself, and I'm on part 2/3, quest 3/5 of farmer.

I play every day, probably more than I should, and I've even gone out of my way to plant extra crops we don't need just to complete quests and I'm still WAY behind everyone else.

Iunno.... feelsbadman.

Either bad RNG or not enough crops...

Farmer is far from being the hardest credo, not saying that the numbers are never crazy but all credos have their auto-skip quests. Mystic/scholar etc... should be much harder unless really good RNG. Like most credos, if you plan ahead a bit (have livestock and enough crops to harvest/plant) you can go through it in a day or two :D

Credos are about intelligently knowing the probability that abandoning a quest and doing 2 quests will be faster than sitting for the one quest. You aren't not supposed to do every quest a credo gives you, even the super easy credos like forager can be done even faster by knowing which to drop (early world you can get forager done day 2 if you know what you're doing). Farmer is very much one of those credos where there are "oh hell no" quests that you absolutely should drop the instant you get them.

The main annoyance with farmer for me is the quantities are rather large considering it's something you have to do asap from a minmax point of view. Also you have actual farmers, gardeners, tailors, and herders who all fill different roles (as in, they're often different characters/people) in the village but all need the farmer credo. That puts a real strain on the crop timings early world when you have so few.

I think the max harvest amounts should be tuned down, but even then there'll be plenty of crops you should drop if you see them.
