Make turnips great again

Postby lordgrunt » Thu Nov 03, 2022 10:33 pm

Is it just me or turnips are nerfed so bad right now that i cant for the life of me get a good quality growth from them? harvest after harvest i'm getting barely a 2 point increase for a good part of this game year. most times it was just +1, quite often simply +0.
I am doing 3 stage planting, separated by 1 IRL hour. Its clearly working for other crops and my best crop yet is a pumpkin. yeeey.
But last time i decided to put few more hours into the process so i stage planted... 8 stages. guess what? 6 were +0, 2 were +2. and those +2's were actually not adjacent but like second and last one.

I do this with 4 batches at least 5 hours appart. Same result. Actually my impression is that I never get better than +1, mostly +0

My crops are progressing slowly also, at least compared to the last couple of worlds. Just as bad is getting such a range of harvest q from one field - plant q50 and harvest q48-q52.

In last world I noticed where you plant can make a difference, so plant some of each crop in different areas of the farm and see what grows best where. A realm has just extended to my area so hopefully that will help, though so far the only buffs are to mushrooms.

Turnips can catch fire in a ditch (1.5 months of 2k turnips for fodder each day has made me salty).

That said: My hypothesis is that short run crops are more likely to run into rounding issues. I'm assuming the game tends to round down, because shorter crops all seem to have lower Q growth than long ones like pumpkin and pipeweed. Rounding down 1 on a +15 is fine. But rounding down 1 on a +3 is a huge impact. Not fully tested, just my musings on the topic.

I think the major problem we have is that all crop growth feels really sluggish compared to last world. Maybe having it tuned upwards wouldn't hurt, especially given the speed at which other industries gain Q.

P.S. Since I was looking this up recently, the planting window for "fully unrelated yields" is 2 hours or 2 minimaps.
