Refer to in-game days/hours with "obsolete" English

Postby vatas » Fri Jul 07, 2023 8:21 pm

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hour : "houre" or "howre"
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hour : "daie" or "daye"

Core issue: no way to tell if the game means "in-game" or "IRL" when something takes X hours. (The notification you get from building a Personal claim is the only exception I'm sure of, it specifies "one in-game day" which corresponds to 7 hours and 18 minutes of real time.)

[EDIT] alternative solution:

Best suggestion I've seen so far.
  • Unambiguously different from real word
  • Recognisable references to day/week without additional information
  • Looks good

This is a pretty funny attempt to get the devs to round-about "fix" their shitty system

+1 for cleaning up the inconsistency of time.

Change the name, its color, umlaut the a, clean up the code~ anything would help this.

No, I mean, it's true, I actually find myself looking at the code sometimes to see if something is in-game or RL time. I'm not denying it's a problem, and I'd like to solve it, I'm just not sure what a good solution is:
  • I can't just naïvely translate the current times to RL times all over, because that would be ugly (eg. "7h 17m 41s" instead of "1d")
  • I clearly can't make the day/night cycle 24 RL hours.
  • I'd have to immolate myself for calendaric heresy if I made the in-game day anything other than 24 in-game hours.
To be sure, I haven't given up, and I'd like to restate that I would like to fix it, but that's the impasse I'm currently at.

I was going to change this to "I can't just give an accurate time" and show sarcastic support, but it's kinda already saying that in a funnier way.

I did intend to leave the goal wide open for you to get your much-needed bonus strikes against me, but surely you do realize that "1d" is not a less accurate time?

Not when "1d" means anything between "7h 17m 41s" and "14h 35m 21s"

Oh, you mean for the things that are intentionally inaccurate. The "7h 17m 41s" syntax is for curiosities, though, and the intentionally inaccurate specifications wouldn't include that many parts.
