This game could go from a 3/10 to a 8/10 just by undoing the obviously bad/hated features/updates instead of sunk cost fallacying things for years.

and then suddenly i show up, with 3 post count, reeing that season mechanics are hardcore and amazing and i will totally quit if you remove them

your argument is now invalid and the devs will listen to me, how does that make you feel?

it's kinda funny that I can pinpoint the exact moment winter started by just looking at the population tracker.
The decline still big, but not as big as it used to be. Jorbtar probably thinks that's good, but in reality:

I would unironically love winter if it was just summer, but snowy + frozen lakes.

It not making sense would only increase my enjoyment of it. Like paving while riding a horse, or mining while carrying a barrel. We need a collective effort to prevent the devs from accidentally being kill-joys

dumb ass mechanics should just be a larpy skin that only changes the look of the game rather than making me want to kill myself

I'm seeing only two rational game design decisions:

1) Remove winter.
2) Claimed land is completely unaffected by Winter. You can plant crops, snow does not fall.

"But you can build Mou-" YOU CAN'T GET MULCH AND STRAW IF YOU'RE NEW/TRYING TO SIMULATE FRESH EXPERIENCE.

"I want to LARP a snowy village." Add in a toggle to allow snowfall. Implement it as OPT-IN so we don't get gazillion threads where people are scolded for not knowing you have to go press the secret "turn off winter" -button.

That's gonna make game too ugly, regardless of existing mechanics that could "warm" your base, which I think is even more ugly.

I'd suggest to make a region-based climate that determines how harsh is it affected by season mechanics.
You'll be able to settle in "Remove winter" area and does not care about it.
Noob can settle in undesired area, suffer from harsh environment but be safe in his own shithole (just like island players).
Other players could settle in colder area to have better natural resources/animal qualities.
It's indeed complicated but for any game this kind of approach has extended potential, since unattractive regions could be resource-rich and attract players via various ways.

If not a way like this one, winter rather should be simply removed from the game.

or just make snow a larpy overlay that does absolutely nothing and it literally fixes everything

Suggestion:
Not all places would receive snow - these would be due to "climate" or other reasons that the devs can think of.
New biomes to compensate for this. World Map will have a colder north and a unique flora and fauna compared to other regions.
Temperate zone will have the regular effects of a 4-season.
If the devs feel fancy about adding another 'deviating' content from the game, they can add sandy deserts as a joke.
Also make world generation a little bit realistic - make rivers flow from mountains. We've only had lakes and streams that come from nowhere.
Make the Central Continent more contiguous and larger than the other continents, and customizable bows for knarrs pls
Current world size is also reasonable and ample enough to keep up with this change. No need to make a bigger map for this idea.
