Game Suggestion: Deep Sea Fishing

Premise:
  • Oceans are boring contentless voids
  • whales are op and easily cheesed such that they don't demand interaction with "Deepest" Ocean tiles (bot patrol to find them, lure to land for easy kill w/ boarspear gangbang)

Add deep sea fishing for Liftable Object-sized fish.

Swordfish, Tuna, Sharks, Ocean Sunfish, the possiblities are endless

Balance Considerations:

  • Remove whales (or otherwise heavily nerf their meats - large meat quantity and best FEPs bar none is too high upside for so little real risk) and fill the [stats besides STR/INT] design niche of "strong mid-late game meat" with deep sea fish meat
  • Make DS Fishing require some kind of heavy-duty metal rod (ain't it weird that the best Fishing Rod we can make is still "Primitive"?) so it's hard locked to day 3 or 7 or w/e
  • Should be mechanically involved enough to require active attention (more fun, less bottable) even as simple as reeling in/out depending on the fish's behavior
  • similarly, there should be some risk for failure within said system e.g. large fish can wound you, destroy or drag your boat if you reel incorrectly, etc
  • make deep sea fishing require both one's ship and line cast be in Deepest Ocean so people can't just cheese it at the edge between deep and deepest and there's always a non-negligible material cost to getting the best fish even once you reach the skill ceiling
