Horses & Raw Hide!

Taking a loot at how tamed horses work, I believe there's a lot of room for improvement.

What are they useful for:
  • Moving faster when lifting an object
  • Pulling wagons
  • Outrunning animals

What they suck at:
  • Running away from players
  • Chasing players

With "Raw Hide!" having such a huge range, super cheap price, and 100% efficacy, using a horse when exploring (especially in areas with larger factions) can be a death sentence.

I see two possible ways to go: reworking horses to make them useful in pvp or just reduce the range of "raw hide!" to make horses a viable option for running away (if you are far enough).

I believe using horses in battle would be amazing, and it would make horse breeding a much more important part of the game: horses with more endurance o more health would be valuable to fighters. "Raw Hide!" would need some rework, to avoid every fight becoming "who's faster to click it wins". Horse armor could become a thing, just like we add saddle bags to them already. And maybe, just maybe, it will reduce the needs to carry the equivalent of a full cistern with you everywhere u go!

I see a lot of potential...

Spammable horse CC should just lock horses to their 1st speed, preferably with an animation that makes them droop their head down in a sad pose.

Hermits actually thinking pvp should be determined by animal breeding is definitive proof they should not be allowed to post in pvp c&i threads.

Horses are great at chasing players, just keep out of their vision range and get ahead of them, you can either pick up speed boosts in front of them or just dismount and go at them.

You really don't want to have pvp at horse speed 4 not to mention horse's hitboxes would make it a clusterfuck. Just imagine fighting horse archers, i would rather die.

yea, when horses where introduced, pvp started to revolve around them, basically if you didnt have the best horse on the server, you couldnt fight,
and the guys that did have the best horses where immortal gods, not able to be touched, flying across the world at unknown speeds,
basically an village of korean sweatbags, becoming ghengis khan,

same thing happened when ships became faster through quality,



horses are still really save, you are faster than anybody on foot, you cant fight on them, but if you just run away from players they wont get intoo rawhide range, so in the end, if you get rawhided ,thats an skill issue,

That's a cool idea. Although I'd rather not have spammable CCs at all, it's silly.

Not a hermit.
Still seems better than pvp being determined by who has the most water in their pockets.

I see, then just don't give it more speed, but rather more health. It would solve the issue, while still allowing cavalry charges.

Considering the visual range and Raw Hide range are the same, that doesn't really work unless you already know the guy is there...

They didn't mean hermit as in solo player.
Actual pvp is almost never determined by who has the most water, the fights are done way before anyone runs out of water (unless someone forgets to fill then it's funny shit talk after fight).

Some players seem to forget that pvp isn't just factions killing each others. A lot of it is done against either hermits, peaceful villages, or people who joined late.

Either way, I'm not here to discuss the merits of pvp. The idea is to make horses either more viable in pvp, or make them a safety measure for those who don't. Right now, their use in pvp is limited by the inability to get in visual range, and they are completely useless as a way to escape since Raw Hide dirty cheap to spam and has visual range (so by the time u know there's a player, u're already fucked... especially considering some clients allow you to do it automatically on white player ping)

i think you dont understand how he meant that, even pvp against hermits isnt determined by water storage,
most hermits and spucecaps just dont know how to run in the first place, or dont have drinking scripts, or flatmaps, or variable speed scripts, have trees on, cant close gates quickly enough, dont have an safepali every 4 grids, havent rushed sneks, didnt click on an duck mid combat, wear the wrong shoes, or severely underestimate the difference in stats quality and recources the opponent has, or simply get outflanked by multiple raiders thingwallhopping infront of them,
