Collapsible cave supports

Postby squeezy102 » Wed Nov 01, 2023 7:20 pm

Requires basic mechanics

Made from 5 metal bars and some metal nuggets (quite expensive in comparison to other supports)

Takes up a 1x4 inventory space.

Can be deployed as a permanent cave support (you can't pick it back up once its placed), but with substantially less (like 50%) hitpoints as a normally built support.

Might also have a very small chance to be degraded by decay hits, even on a claim.

I'm envisioning a hacky, unreliable, but immediately effective solution to situations where I'm out and about and I'm like "ooooh I wanna dig right there real fast" but I don't want to haul metal and a full inventory of blocks to wherever I'm going and hope to god there's one more block I can grab somewhere on the way or somewhere near by. I'm picturing something convenient, but you pay a pretty heavy price for that convenience (increased cost, decreased protection)

Also please change the mine support recipe to 15 blocks instead of 16.

there is an more convienient solution than wooden supports, its called carrying an stack of shitty bronze and making stone columns,
you could also grow an set of balls, and just hack at the wall, after the first space its just mine sweeper.

the idea was about sporadic and spontaneous mining, not about early game mining, you proposed it being made out of multiple bars,

No that's your idea.

My idea was when I find ore somewhere out and about that's far from my base, I have something I can deploy on the go.

1. Carry bronze bars with you when you go search for ore far from your base.
2. Acquire whatever stone there's around the ore if you find it.
3. Deploy Stone Column on the go.

I just want a tunnel support that lets you mine in a straight line. Lets you mine 10 tiles foward or back of the direction it faces (3 tiles wide so you can place a support without interrupting the walking path). Maybe you place it onto a cave tile and the construction process actually involves mining out the tile?

I want to say it should cost like 3 blocks of wood. Midgame+ people will still use the bronze bar for tunneling though because it's more inventory efficient. Maybe a bronze+stone varient that goes further to address this?

I would love love love this though!

Seems very situational, especially considering such an item should probably take as much space (or more) as a coracle in your inventory.

Grabbing a cart with logs sound more convenient...
