Fyrdsman's Sword & Hirdsman's Sword need more love

Postby noindyfikator » Fri Nov 10, 2023 12:07 pm

Weapon progression:

1. Clay knife
2. Flint knife
3. Obsidian knife (?)
4. Bronze Sword
5. THERE SHOUDL BE WEAPON MADE FROM WROUGHT IRON BUT WE SKIP THIS PART
6. B12

Fyrdsman's Sword sux because it requires wood and has 10% armor penetration
Hirdsman's Sword sux because it requires wood and it has 7.5% armor penetration

Steel is available too fast (lvl 3 minehole kek) and there is no space for Fyrdsman's or Hirdsman's sword. It would be nice to have useable weapon between bronze sword and B12

Yeah it seems for some reason legacy wrought gear counts as lower tier than bronze, but with current metal progression model wrought should be better than bronze.
This should be revisited for sure

Also the fact that obsidian knife is straight up busted (50 base damage, 20% grievous and armor pen) is just not even funny. It can easily be made day 1 and outperform tinker's axe, especially since cleave kinda sucks with tinker's and sting is very good early on.
We got them quite late (after tinker's), but if you got it day 1 you straight up don't need any upgrade until bronze.

And the best part is that I didn't see anyone mention it like ever until we all got bronze, so idk if people actually know about it.

the progression timing is even more fucked up,
day one, you could make an q10 obsidian knive, and its the best weapon untill you make an slightly better obsidian knive,
ceramic knives are only good if you have really high q clay, and no obsidian, flintknives are the fyrmans sword of day 1
day 7 you get bronze swords, and hussars
day 15-16 the first b12 gets made by botted chalcopyrite,

and thats it, from that point on you just make increasingly better b12s for your main fighers, and the rest of the worlds uses bronze swords untill the value of steel plummets, due to it basically an waste product of metal cycling,

meaning 2 weeks in fighters basically run around with their best in slot items, although quality is still shit, this is sooner than trellis crops can be cultivated and grown in significantly scale, and most villages havent even finished building .

gatekeep steel behind something, delaying it further, most likely in the same way as pyres or crops work now,
an gate like sunstone for knarrs wouldnt work though, as this would just result in either rng access to it, or simply shifting the problem for an few days.
this would spell the end for calco b12 only accessible by 4 villages that bot a lot,

make steel swords equivalent to bronze swords, with (very slightly) better damage at same quality .
if we would dwell longer on wrought iron before turning to steel, the spiraling grind would eventually give frydmans sword the time to shine, even with miniscule buffs

just an rough idea, i compleatly forgot why non bronze swords got shafted the way they are right now.

Just add x1 bloodstone (or flux stone that spawns on -5) requirement to steel crucibles and make wrought iron swords functionally equivalent to bronze ones by removing the wood requirement and giving them identical stats, but allow them to be higher quality through spiraling.
