Follow option should not make you go faster

As the title implies, the mechanic of following another player makes you go faster, whether it be on foot, boat, sled or whatever. It literally makes no sense and it gives anyone who decided to pursue you the advantage which you can literally do nothing about.
I've tested this both with willing and unwilling participants and no matter what you do the person who chooses the option to follow will always catch up to you if you have equal transportation.

The follow mechanic makes the follower go slightly faster to catch up to you even on foot. I've tested this a couple times on different terrains If you follow in a straight line the follower always ends up right up close to you especially if you have to change direction.
