Remove PvP-related scents.
Defeated players simply drop their stuff and respawn.
Add more objectives like the Falling Star event so players have a reason to PvP that isn't just "because I can". These events should happen all the time and reward all kinds of cool resources.
Instead of Meteorite you have something like a pile of highQ clay, a patch of highQ carrots (based on server lead in carrotQ) or a super strong bear. Some will be announced globally, some only to nearby players, some you have to find yourself. Just like Meteorite you have to wait out a timer first to give players time to prepare.

I want to interact with other players and go out exploring but right now there is no reason to + permadeath just makes me avoid player interaction.
No permadeath + stuff to fight over = more PvP = more fun = game less dead
