There should be rocks in the sea that could damage the ship.
Or floating ice blocks, moving back and forth, in order to destroy the Titanic.

Also, large ships should not be able to pass through shallow water.

Half or one-third of the port should also be able to extend to deeper waters.

Rowing should consume physical energy, which is reasonable. It's very tiring.

rowing should also only be necessary when moving against the flow of the water or when there is zero movement of water.
going downstream - +50% vessel speed, -10% stamina drain
going upstream - -25% vessel speed, +30% stamina drain
moving in stagnant water - +10% stamina drain
sea waves should also have a different effect than fresh water wave sources. shores occasionally fill up with trash from the sea, moving back and forth on the seaside until they are beached on the shore.
boats should also have an effect on the wave system, like if there are like a shit ton of players wanting to test if they can cause an inland tsunami by going in circles in a landlocked lake.
CONS and STR would also play a huge part in affecting rowing modifiers. At least make them make sense. Lifting objects is already a step ahead in having those attributes affect things (STR, that I know of).

IF NOTHING FROM ABOVE IS IMPLEMENTED, THE FOLLOWING CONDITION MUST BE FULFILLED:
- Dolphins are introduced in the next update (or in the following n*amount of days that jorbtar has not made their presence)

It’d definitely add to the challenge of navigating. For the ships, making them avoid shallow water is a good idea.
