Single Player (With a bit of ranting about server wiping)

Postby Nocturnal-Rainbows » Sun Aug 04, 2024 8:55 pm

This has been brought up multiple times in the past, we've all heard the answers before but I'm calling bullshit on the excuses used against this suggestion.
There are essentially no downsides to releasing this game in a more official capacity, be it on steam or just here, I don't really care where. Release it, keep the same online model we have now but have an option for the game to be played single player.
There's a lot of people that simply want to jump in and fuck around at their own pace. I'm playing a single player version of Ultima Online right now. I made my own server to play WoW solo before that. I'd love to be able to generate my own different H&H world whenever I want and to play at my own pace between server wipes
And I know the game isn't designed to be played as single player, that's why I'm not asking for any features that would be exclusive to single player, I literally just want to play the game AS IT IS NOW but solo. You've had multiple people saying they'd pay like $60 just to be able to do that. And if the worry is that people will stop playing online, that's completely unfounded and will never happen. People like me who want to play solo are in the minority, the vast majority of people enjoy the social aspect and they're never going to give that up.
Someone like me who plays for around a month or so before getting burned out trying in futile to keep up as best I can with people who bot the ever-loving shit out of the game pays like $7 per world for the subscription bonus. I'd pay $60 for a solo mode, that's almost 9 worlds worth of what I'd be paying anyway except it's paid upfront instead of something retarded like over 9 years (new worlds usually last over a year).

So why do I want solo mode? What benefits are there for someone like me?
Well, I've been wanting to play H&H again for around 2 months now. No signs of a new world happening, could be this month, could be 3 months from now, could even be longer. This is ridiculous, I can't think of a single other game where I've had like 9 months of waiting just to get back into being able to play on terms that don't feel terrible (and jumping into a pre-established world that has already ran its course IS terrible). Somebody already made a thread about this which I've commented in about how long it takes for the game to wipe. IMO it should be 6 months per wipe until an acceptable end game has been implemented and you'll know you have a successful endgame WHEN 95% OF THE SERVER POPULATION DOESN'T FUCKING LEAVE AFTER 2-3 MONTHS BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO DO BUT PVP AND GRIND QUALITY. You have a great game here, it's unique as fuck and there's no other game that scratches the same itch as H&H, when you want to play H&H there's no substitute which is what makes the wait for the next wipe all the more painful. It's for this reason we need either shorter wipe times or a solo mode, preferably both. I know that I'd still play the regular multiplayer version whenever a new world pops up even if I could play single player because it's an exciting time and I love the early game rush and the skirmishes and the chaos and the race for good quality resources. All of that is great, it's the latter part of the game which disappoints. I wish the early game dragged on for longer if I'm honest and knowing that you only get to experience that greatness once every year+ before needing to wait all over again sucks ass.

Yes, it's HNH2 now. The old HNH1 should be packaged and sold in steam, which is a classic.

Alot of people will pay 60$ and most of them will be the persons who wait for "singleplayer" not a pve server, just your own, to play with your rules and speed of progression.

I'm quite sure that JnL fully understand that the very moment they hand over the server part to the players (that's lazy way to make SP in MP game), their existence as developers will cease to be necessary. Players are kinda autistic in the improving the game by themselves (game clients, side tools etc), and that two are kinda lazy. So let the cow be milked for several more years.

I think 80 pop is fine and pretty much a singleplayer, not a issue -1

I have no idea how people have this craving for a single player haven, would be boring has hell.
joining the world late is is boring for this reason.

I have re-joined a few weeks ago and I am yet to see a SINGLE person I didn't even have walls for 2 weeks and its honestly the most boring the game can be. so if you want a single player experience join now and you have the benefit of have ruins to run around.

If they give out the server files the game would die, you would have 10-100 different private servers to join and the official server population is gone.

Again, no idea how anyone would want to play this game single player, the only survival aspects are pvp, imagine asking to play Rust single player smh.
