Collection Log

Have a menu that shows what your character has discovered. This would allow people who want to discover things and get early LP know what trees and forageables they have discovered so far, as well as completionists learning every potential item. This would also give people more incentive to explore and have another goal for the world. Have some simple tabs sorted by "forageables" "trees" "creatures" and inside them, for example, be able to click on "Wolverine" and see that you have not discovered the "Scent Gland" item, but you have the fresh hide, bones, meat etc. For items you haven't discovered, show the image of the item but have the description or text be "???". This will be a way for new players to see what items come from a creature, tree, resource that they have found before. For a tree you can see if you have discovered its block of wood or board yet on top of leaves, fruits and barks. Some clients MIGHT have this, but I think it would be a good addition to the base game.

The Collection Log could be next to the Quest Log and have a similar layout if you need to use existing resources. An example of clicking through the menu could be that you see all the generic things (i.e. crafting) like "Trees and Bushes", "Creatures", "Forageables", "Stones and Ores" ore something along those lines, then you click on "Creatures" and if you haven't fought any animals or caught rabbits, you will see a blacked out icon or model with ??? in a list of all the creatures in the game, but when you have carved or fought say, a wolverine, you will see a list with the ???s but see the Wolverine not blacked out, and you can click on it to see what items you have carved from it in the past, and all items will be in a similar list to the ???s before if you haven't seen them.

Think of it as your hermit having a notebook cataloging everything they see.
