Metal Plow should take soft, not hard, metal

Postby linkfanpc » Wed Nov 13, 2024 7:20 am

By the time you've gotten to level 2 and made your first batch of hard metal your fields will have been plowed long ago. I can't see any good use for the metal plow as-is especially with how sought-after hard metal is now. Pleeeaaase make it take soft metal instead.
Total misplay.

would make 0 sense from a realism standpoint,

you need hard metals to actually plow better than just a wooden rake.

as it currently is, you basically just circle your shitty wildcrops, for a week or so, untill your actual crops come around,
and small fields can be reasonably plowed with a shovel(tinkers shovel exists)

the majority of the world will progress to lvl 2 after 7 to 10 days, wich will be around the same time you set up actual farms for real cropps.

Realism is the gameplay killer.
And if you havent plowed most if not all of your planned field by day 7-10 like you said you're doing it very wrong.
You know primitive crops give strings, straw, fodder for your animals and more importantly wax from your beehives right?

If it wasnt clear yet, I agree with OP.
In the current meta hard metal plow has no use.

I was ready to knee-jerk to the realism argument, but I tend to agree with OP in this case. It just makes a lot more gameplay sense this way. Perhaps there's room to keep the hard metal plow and introduce a soft metal variant in between the wooden and hard metal ones?

I'm on the "realism can suck me n utes" side of things here. Most of your plowing is done pre-hard metal, let us have nice things.

If you have already plowed everything by that time, then what is the crying?

From realism standpoint, all metal ores should be available on surface, mountains or cratons.
From the gameplay standpoint, we have new mechanic that was hastily done as metal progression rework before one of new worlds, and is no more consistent some other elements of game progression.
Indeed, there is not much sense to craft metal plow, and although it's insignificant topic (come on, we have a lot more important stuff broken) at some point this should be revisited.

I agree, or add a slightly faster middleman plough that requires different but obtainable (after some progression) materials

I agree some tools are underpowered by the time you find the hard metal, even more with this crap metal diversity.
Our farmer finish the fields way before getting hand on hard metal on every world.
And no you don't get to layer 2 in 1 week for the majority (you can't mine there efficiently in only 7 days).
