Are personal beliefs system ever coming back?

Would be cool to mess around with more stuff in the game or is this the only mechanic that will remain part of legacy?

Of all the mechanics that have come and gone, I can say with almost utmost certainty that this is one of my least favourite. For the rare loserly player like me that plays solo with no alts or friends or anything, it felt like the game was actively telling me I was wrong for playing that way. It felt like I was being told to my face that a settlement is utterly crippled if you don't have at least 2 characters in it.

I see the benefits and the dynamic character building it might add but the game already punishes me for playing solo by making me spread all my points around, getting hit with -20% on something as well was like salt in a wound

Credos are our replacement and work better. You can specialize in more than one thing, but at the cost of increasing effort.

The personal belief system gave even more reason for people to use alts, It looks cool on paper until you actually have to deal with waiting to change your nature/industry slider over several days. Definitely shouldn't make a comeback. As already said credos are a much better replacement.

if it ever comes back. i would like the most if it gets integrated intoo the hearthmagic system.

magic should be cryptic and weird, with minor, mostly sensory effects.
adding a plethora of variance, based on personal playstile could result in a lot more unpredictability and varied effects, making understanding the magic system more difficult.

Thematically cool, I wouldn't mind something similar to the personal belief system but for villages. It would be like certain villages specializing in certain industries- but I wouldn't throw massive penalties around for switching.
Something like nature would increase tree and crop growth speed, and industry increasing the chance of metals not turning into slag and tar kiln speed

Based on what I remember experiencing/hearing when I layed back in w7:

Death/Life: Everyone went full Life because grievous damage was useless (no KO protection)

Night/Day: nobody bothered with this?

Barbarism/Civilization: Full Civ could be useful for new characters (especially since hunting is so dominantly done with a sling, unaffected by debuffs to STR/CON) but they have to stack Peaceful first(?) Also being a barbarian makes you better miner, which can be useful but also a balance issue?

Nature/Industry: This is the big one. Basically game tells you there's farming and metal industry - then tells you to select one. Like others said, it was the biggest thing forcing alts. I remember there being like one crazy person who claimed to swap between the two once in a while (or was outright masochistic and played solo while having the slider in a neutral position?)

Martial/Peaceful: New player has to wait until maxing Peaceful before they can "properly play the game." No idea if the damage bonus was ever worth losing the LP gain bonus.

Tradition/Change: This is one of the few things that was (allegedly) an useful and active choice, also (allegedly) making for a more even playing field in terms of PvP:
dafels wrote:Legacy had change/tradition slider together with einher bonus. Most of PvPers were on tradition that made it impractical to study any curios meanwhile letting other people to catch up with them and it was not really a problem to catch up. Plus the combat system allowed to take down someone who had stat advantage. I think it would be just better to back to full permadeath since it is mostly just larpers and sprucecaps murdered the way ko mechanic currently works and the faction people rarely get punished with a permadeath. Even If you would track someone after he murders a spruce cap all you can do is just a ko which is stupid.
