Upgradable walls

How about walls being upgradable.

Palisade->stone->brick

So you just upgrade a corner and build new wall replacing the old one.

Stone could be a middleground requirering soft or hard metal for the first corner and stone for the rest.

Yea I do find it odd that your only option other than palisade is clay brick, given the supposed setting being in Northern medieval Europe. I didn't think there were clay brick defensive walls in northern Europe during this time. But I'm sure there were plenty of stone walls.

Also given the permanent nature of walls, it would be really nice to be able to upgrade them

If not a direct upgrade, at least have walls become stronger the longer they stand. Or build stone walls (like castle walls) using the pali as a framework, once settled these would be nearly invulnerable except at gates.

Would be nice to be able to replace a palisade with a brick wall, without having to completely demolish the palisade.
Make it full cost even, I don't care.

I'm against walls getting even stronger beyond what's already implemented, but I think a middle-ground between w00d and steel is in order, I think stone can potentially achieve this middle ground somehow. And upgrading what's already standing would be a really nice QOL feature

True. Perhaps right click on pali and have option to "rebuild with brick", it would require the same materials, same time, and same stamina but could be done in one step. In RL brick walls are not free standing, they are built on a wooden frame.

I've helped build some brick walls and it was usually build the brick wall just outside the pali, wait for it to "harden", then demolish the pali (which often takes longer than building both, the last time we seemed to spend as much time repairing the battering ram).

changing gates to visitor gates or another way around also would be great.
