Allow viewing docks before confirming fast travel

Postby SanCoca » Sun Dec 15, 2024 1:08 am

You can't currently view the docks before fast traveling to the dock. So people can ambush you while you're completely defenseless stuck on a boat.

The solution people give is "make an alt to watch the docks while you're on a boat". I get sick of hearing "Make an alt" "Use an alt" like holy shit.

Jorb add "alt management" to the client. So that you can login and command other alts from your main client that would solve it!!!!!!! Oh and while you're at it! Allow selection of multiple hearthlings and right click on trees so they start cutting wood like in age if empires!!

Adding teleportation to boats was the real mistake.

People would put docks next to thingwalls/any unclaimed water for unkillable scout bots that they can teleport to, and gank instantly.

We should be able to "peek" at the destination of any fast travel; we can do it for road travel, river jumps, thingwalls, so why not docking.

In fact I would like to see this ability when you log in out in the wild. Server crashes, everyone is logged out automatically, server comes back up a few minutes later, you log in ....right beside a bear.

"No room at the dock" => No peak. Makes them very blockable.

The ability to peak at teleportation destinations is everywhere else in the game other than hearthfires which can be wall protected.

Roads and houses can be bashed, and have a specific point that must be previewed from. Thingwalls are placed by the map at specific points. If I put a p. claim and a dock on your river systems I get to see anytime you leave and can teleport there in 10 seconds on a snekk from wherever I put it.

If blocking the dock prevents the viewing, it's probably fine to add a preview. I doubt there's going to be too much abuse with how annoying a dock blocking/unblocking alt war would be.

ok. lets really think about what you just said. maybe you could do that before you post next time. how would that go.

so you drive up to the peak botroad, and get pinged, then you step out of your boat and start bashing the road.
you usually dont set up peakbots on locations you cant reach quickly. worst case scenario, they use the road, and teleport right on top of you while you are bashing,

best case scenario, the bot now peeks 1 roadstone farther in, still pings you, and enemys are on their way.

"oh wait reiber! i can just directly bash an earlier roadsign, and push the bot farther back at once!" i hear you say,
congratulations, the bot now is set to your current position and pings you. prepare your cheeks, and while they open your rectum they can fix the road while they are there , going through your loot.

also have fun bashing every noob house, pali and burrow in viewing distance from rivers, you dont even get the eye there, you wont even know you are getting scouted,

also, thingwalls are pure traps at this point, the moment you come intoo viewing distance of one, you are popping up on someones map.
and it takes longer for you to leave the area than it takes people from any point on the map to port there.
