Treasure chest buried by players

Postby sanya_al » Thu Apr 10, 2025 1:14 pm

I saw some ideas to add generated treasures, but as most things created by players, they should also be able to bury chest in the ground.
Why?
1. Another level of security when claims and walls are fallen. For example you can hide master keys and not use extra person
2. Some bored players may create quests for beginners and others. Pirate maps are waiting for you!
How it should work?
New option in adventure menu to bury. Dig on exact tile and exact depth (arguable) and you automatically lift chest.

I've long wanted the ability to bury things - keys, high q seeds, etc. - just in case the farm/village is raided. The person who buries the item(s) receives a "map", only the person with the map can dig up the item(s), so you could give the map to anyone else. Perhaps you could only bury on your claim; otherwise what happens if you bury something and someone else claims that land, or someone else randomly digs up that area, even if they can't find your "treasure" could you dig there later and get it?

You can just drop stuff and dig it up later.

Anything you just drop becomes part of a global pool of items which anyone may find while digging.

Is it really global? I thought its always been local since I dig up things I dropped myself.

I have no idea how large an individual "trash pool" is - but based on my experience, you can dig up items that were presumably dropped on ground several minimap tiles away.

Tangentially related: IIRC Loftar has specified that an item has only something like a 90% chance to enter into the trash pool when it decays - this is to prevent an infinite loop of unwanted items re-entering the pool.

Also houses and caves have their own trash pools, but since there is no (current) way to access them, ground items that decay in them are effectively deleted.

if you make buried chests, you need to make a map the size of the screen where the cell where the chest is buried is marked, which cannot be taken away from the game, and if it is thrown to the ground, it will end up inside the nearest stump or log. And if the chest is dug up, the map disappears quantumly.
