NERF STEEL LOCKS

I had like 1500 dext and 700 stealth this world and I still couldn't pick steel locks in under a literal hour. It's retarded and unfun. Either nerf them by making houses always unlocked when somebody in combat is inside, and maybe just change the formula to be a bit more reasonable as well

There is no point in removing safe palis if there is an easy alternative. I don't think safe watermills will feel any less cheasy.

I'd rather remove all locks except wooden q10 personally. Only purpose is to make people leave a scent when picking them.

So how are we supposed to escape from you? Save Pali was removed, you want to nerf the last chance to save yourself?

Counterpoint I personally experienced: People spent 2 weeks dropping claims next to me until one dried. Then guarded the palisade while that dried. Now they could attack me with a safe palisade within a very short run distance of my village. Safehouse abuse goes both ways, and it's very gross when used offensively.

But that still doesn't answer my question: how do we defend ourselves against Snail and everyone like him? If you don't know how to fight in PvP? Those guys will simply cut out most of the online players in the first few months and claim the world is dead, there's no one left to kill.

If you don't know how to fight, you don't know how to run. Running and chasing is most of what pvp is in haven. If you don't know how to run, you're not making it to a safe pali anyway. Safepalis only give the illusion to new players that they stand a chance of escaping, in reality they're all in the dirt because they didn't get caught 10 tiles from their village. You can't remove the movement component of pvp without ruining it, it's where the mechanical skill comes into play.

So the answer I settle on is harm reduction when getting Koed. I'm a strong proponent of "The wound system has replaced permadeath in almost all ways, we should just finish the job". People get attached to their characters. Sure, getting wounded constantly in pvp will piss off new players but it's very different mentally from "actually" dying.

It's one thing to dabble in savepali, another to just run. This will be a battle of who has the most water. And considering the PvP players have full troll belts and full inventory waterskins, this battle is a foregone conclusion.

If you can't run long enough in a straight line to get like a speedboost or two (which you can get first because you are uh, running away, so you're in front) and then maybe click a rabbit you are not making it to the safepali either.

You're not the first person to write this. The most important thing here is a safe place. What safe place? The save palisade was removed, and now people want to nerf the locks.
