Things I'd like to avoid in y.n worlds

Postby Fostik » Mon Nov 10, 2025 10:54 am

So I'd like to avoid following things in .n worlds, considering they're not persistent and should not make me sweat.

1. Doing credos for too long. Make em easier to get or limit to 3 per character or something.
If you don't like it go and play persistent world.
2. Raising animals quality or crops quality painfully slow. Animal products of q10 is mostly useless, except pork and maybe some couple of beef recipes. Make them higher from the beginning or rise faster, I don't want to raise my sheep to q80 for 3 months.
3. Painfully slow progression of processing mechanics, e.g. smelters for 40 minutes, drying for 10-12 hours and tanning for full day. Make it go
4. Prolonged world progression wouldn't make a lot of sense, so having so much mine levels and other stat-gating mechanics could only make it so that certain game mechanics could only be reached by even smaller percentile of players.

And on the other hard, what I'd like to see is any mechanics forcing more player interactions and intents to cooperate, such as:
1. Make world smaller
2. Make any mechanics/intents for people to form villages and group, it should be disadvantageous to play solo.

Half of this is on jorb for doing an open-ended call for ideas.

Other half is on us for being naive.

I'm convinced Jorb means well.
But you're entirely right that we should learn from his failure to follow through.

I wonder if this world is even supposed to be shorter since that wasn't really stated on this annoucement. It might be a normal length world for all we know.

This alone was a sole reason for me quitting several worlds in the past, being a hermit. Amount of time and micro the animals require is mind boggling. Most systems were improved, more or less, over the years, like farming. And with animals it became even worse grind: additional animal kinds.
I hate you! Yes, you!
How does it matter when you die? Today? In hundred years? What will be left of you after millennia?

"...it should be disadvantageous to play solo"

Why? Or are you one of those who just hate hermits?

Being part of a village can be fun ...if everyone sticks with it, which is rare (it is no fun being the last person in a village when everyone quit after 4-5 months and you know you cannot maintain the place by yourself). Playing solo my farms have lasted entire worlds, while I loot those villages that once had several members.

"I'd like to see is any mechanics forcing more player interactions and intents to cooperate"

But the current state of PvP action mitigates against that. "Run and hide" is still safer than "meet and greet". I see no solutions to that.

If you make things easier for solo play you ironically make it harder for yourself to compete meaningfully, markets become void because guess what, everyone can do everything no point in trading. The idea of making things take time and effort from sometimes multiple people in a single industry is that it encourages trade and specialisation, as a hermit you shouldn't even be thinking about doing everything, you should be thinking about doing 1-2 things really well and trading for the things you lack.

Solo IS possible right now, you CAN achieve everything, it just takes a lot of time and effort to do that most people wont do.

a Slight add here too, if you make it even more possible to hermit through all the games content you actually make the bridge between you and groups worse. a 10 man village will require nothing from the outside world and you will never ever have "meet and greet" situations because there will never be anything that group of 10 people cannot get from any hermit, compared to right now specialised hermits are actually kinda pog, there has been a many instances of hermits simply focusing on one thing and everyone benefiting from it. I remember in W13(?) there was a a hermit that purely focused on potion making and RPing it, and nearly every village loved it and none of us even bothered to make potions ourselves we just asked him.

And from being a hermit myself in the past that has specialised, I can tell you there is nothing better then being a Hermit that is offering the best Q items in a certain industry and everyone coming to your door step asking for more, its satisfying as hell. And removing the ability to specialise is kinda sad.

Even in these shorter worlds, with the current pace of content to end-game, 3-6 months is kinda plenty of time to achieve everything. sure you might never get animal Q up higher then wild ones but lets me real here. I doubt there is many people who actually ever achieve that in the first place.
