- It functions as a quality / gear type reset every week keeping people more even
- you can prospect ore on the layer below, letting you lazily prepare ahead of time instead of it all being a big RNG rush as you plop the new minehole down
- it spreads out the work so people don't burn themselves out in 2 weeks of absolute autism grinding
Anvil mould time gate is bad because:
- the work is already done, the reward and hype around it is just delayed
- if you happen to be slow with making your anvil you "can't play the game" until your anvil finishes drying since PVP-wise the gap between bronze/no bronze is gargantuan, so you end up being online with stuff you need to do, but you can't do because there is an arbitrary timer
- it's a lot less hype to get an anvil tomorrow when this timer finishes than to just get the anvil you worked for
- it serves no positive mechanical purpose in terms of slowing growth, or spreading the amount of work that needs to be done in a favorable way
Mine pyre time gate bad because:
- your village is mostly tethered to your mine pyres, and because you lack a lot of information at the start of the world that can cause a lot of problems and lack of freedom with no clear upside
- if you join late, even if you have materials and 2k strength you still can't mine until you spend 2 weeks waiting for mine pyres (which is probably not THAT common but such an egregiously bad thing to have happen that I feel like on its own should be enough reason to yeet this shit)
- rly bad raid/siege implications
- guarding mine pyres early world incredibly stinky
- can reasonably stop people from mining entirely by blocking their mine pyres since the palisades protecting them last 2 days
- it serves no positive mechanical purpose in terms of slowing growth, or spreading the amount of work that needs to be done in a favorable way
I rly feel like moulds/mine pyres should be nearly instant. Even the examples of good time gates some people don't like (I fucking love delayed mineholes), but I don't think there's any reasonable defense of pyres/moulds. Everybody either doesn't like them or doesn't care.
