Stone and tinker's axe changes critique

Since 16.1 stone axe has been given -20% quality debuff on mining, while tinker's throwing axe only have -10% debuff along with other bonuses for mining.
I see there's an implication to use it for mining as more viable tool, but to which degree should you not understand your own game to do changes like that?

Any mold item is much more complicated to craft quality-vise, it's going to be nearly impossible to make tinker's axe nearly as close as stone axe could be.
For the entire time being stone axe was the main tool to progress with, as it's the only thing allowing you to receive qualities as close to natural high quality of a stone. As always I think this change hurts avg quality players more than anyone else.

Boughs now spiral with axe Q, so pickaxes can be made at higher Q to make up for the gap in Stone Q.

IE go mining get better stone, make better stone axe, get better bough make better pickaxe get better stone, repeat.

It's a good point, I missed it.
But even with it I'm still not sure it's viable to replace axe with pickaxe, in the past there was roughly 100 quality difference between them kept entire world (at average), bough alone is not enough to leverage this gap created by anvil and metal q.

But I agree this axe quality effect is interesting and builds some new interesting concepts.

I assume they didn't really know what debuff to give stone/tin axes and i expect them to balance it around that concept so if stone axes still end up being the "best tool" for Q mining expect it to be nerfed until pickaxes are the best choice.
