I want to suggest that we reduce the amount of bone ash required from 5 to either 2 or 3 for bone clay. Every world, I set out to work on the quality grind, but I almost always stop at 1-2 iterations of the route of cave clay > Soap clay > Bone clay, and the biggest reason why is the bone ash amount. If you want 35 pieces of clay for a kiln, that's a whopping 175 bone ashes, which comes out to quite a few high quality bears, wolves, whatever other wildlife you can find. I'm not opposed to putting in some effort to upgrade my kiln, but I want to point out that to stay even remotely competitive, you have to do this multiple times. We're talking dedicating a massive amount of high quality bones, just to upgrade your kiln. When comparing it to upgrading other large tools, the kiln is always the one that gets in my way regarding continuing the quality grind. I end up getting discouraged, and I just go to a market and use somebody else's q250 kiln because I cannot muster the willpower to upgrade my kiln from q150 to q170 or whatever.
To add to this, coade clay ends up being the way more time-efficient method of upgrading your kiln, making the use of bone clay something I end up saving for when I can reliably kill trolls for their bones. I greatly appreciate the direction that has been taken to increase the amount of cave clay in the game, but even still, I find myself sitting on an abundance of cave clay because I can't will myself to commit wildlife genocide just for a 20q upgrade on my kiln, I end up saving it for when I can acquire q250+ bones. I want to make use of the cave clay resource, but I think the current setup is a bit too constrictive.
Somewhat related, is it possible to either allow us to turn pit clay into soap clay or to raise the base quality of any extracted pit clay? Maybe I am missing something, but the quality hike due to using lye and saltwater to turn cave clay into soap clay makes pit clay seem like the inferior choice for bone clay.
