Selfish request: Please let me kill moths and butterflies

Postby DarkLadyPhoenix » Sat Feb 28, 2026 5:23 am

I hate the cave moths. They fly around my face.

I can pick them up so they are not flying in my face but I can't kill them and drop them. They just fly around. Can an option to kill them like some of the other critters? eg. scorpians, silk moth cocoons etc. be added pretty please?

Killing butterflies, tearing off grasshoppers' legs... it's cruel. But in theory, you can do this by creating a collection of insects from them. Carry a log with you.
But if butterflies irritate you, maybe it's better to ask for chamomile tea. For peace of mind. Chamomile is in the game.

Maybe he forgot, or there are other reasons.

For me, don't squash insects. If they're not needed, let them go. Give them to the alt to study.
Also, almost all insects are curiosities, and someone can destroy them this way. Be it in a mine, in a swamp, or when someone breaks into your house.

People are different, but do you really need to kill innocent creatures just to relax? Watch cat videos, turn on some music.

I'm a completionist. I like my mined stones lined up in neat stockpiles and my trees planted facing one direction.

When I mine a tile and half a dozen moths burst out in a flurry of utter flickering chaos, I catch them all, methodically, one by one, and then go to nearest natural tunnel to put the moths into a natural container just so they don't annoy me with their movement.

I would very much like to be able to kill the pesky unruly things and watch their squashed remains evaporate from the ground I droppen them on, thank you.

And no, I reject the notion of "guilty conscience" towards a bunch of bugs that come from nothing and into nothing are disappeared as soon as I leave the area. That's the perfect illustration to the falling tree conundrum: if a moth doesn't exist unless it has someone watching it exist, it does not exist at all. No harm no foul.

I also like this dilemma, as you called it. Although in a slightly different form: "There's a rock in the desert. No one knows about it. Does it exist?"

If you don't strictly need to kill them, but just get rid of the irritant, there are other ways. For example,
a function that allows you to hide/hide selected objects. Like they did with the trees.

I don't need "them" to be hidden, I need them not to be there when I do not want them to be there, and be there when I benevolently allow them to. The irritant is their presence and my unjustified and illogical inability to enforce my will. Just as I will always know that a slip of my hand caused one of my trees to grow ever-so-slightly out of line, hidden or not - the knowledge stays with me and is an irritant.

If I'm in the mine, every square of inventory is precious. I hate wasting them on these stupid moths and I will for sure not be carrying around a log that takes up two inv spaces in order to.... turn it into an item that takes up 2 inv spaces.

I also know enough not to equate pixels on a screen with real animals. Especially when eating grubs and killing snakes to survive in said game.

Death to all cave moths.
