The basement isn't deep enough. The mine supports won't hold the earth - a more solid layer is needed.

modular interiors could probably work, keeping same building exterior, Flintstones style

guessing OCO is not related, but the amount of data produced for each custom inner building, or simply the devs don't like the idea of a Flintstones interior

I would like to be able to make the interiors of the mines into living quarters, dwarf fortress style. Let us polish the walls (with rough polish per tile) and also build walls and doors and count the areas inside them as internal (cellar) for decay purposes.

As for the calculations, you could do a complex one or you can do something local like this tile is paved/polished + tiles in the radius 5 are also paved/polished or are walls (blocking the A* path finding)
