not an idea, just an observation, monster's pathfinding skills are somewhat scary. consider this map:

loose pile of rocks appeared at the red circle in middle tunel, i stood in right tunnel, separated by walls i forced it to break by mining around. for a moment slimes just stood like they should in place.

But then pathfinding kicked it. mobs had to traverse 100 tiles south, make a turn and do another 100 tiles north to me (blue line). while they gave up the fight on the way, they actually reached my last position.
