Where does this hate towards Salem come from? Genuinely curious. They are very similar games from the same devs. :?:

I could be wrong, but based on what I know/remember, here's some factual foundation for this discussion:
1. Exploration Events were added to Salem after Jorb had already sold it. (I think it was sold again to third owner who currently still runs it? Dunno if the first or second buyer added the exploration events.) The design intention was to provide an incentive to leave your base because, similar to Haven, you could do most of your grinding within your walls. On paper, this was a good idea.
2. Exploration Events in Salem have the potential for serious macro-level balance issues. I guess some are harmless like finding a pot of gold (in Salem, acquiring/using Gold works differently enough to not cause immediate progression/wealth concerns from event RNG) but at least on the 'New Haven' fresh server (not at all confusingly named from HnH player perspective, I know) only way to get livestock was to trigger an exploration event that only happened in one specific biome (both statements are AFAIK.)
3. Some of them simply had an annoyance to them. There's a tree with a corpse hanging from it that gives you insanity/madness. This wouldn't be a big deal but the effect is applied from just entering the rendering distance. You could call it a skill issue but I've heard a complaint where someone gained several madness level before realizing it was caused by the "Hangman's Tree" at just the right spot from Homestead to be rendered but not seen.

In conclusion, I'd say that the issues players have with "Exploration Events" mostly boil down to how they're implemented.

I had no idea they were added later. I only played on New Haven (the new server) and I have no clue how Salem was back then. :o

Sounds like the concept is neat but the execution wasn't quite there. The nodes like salt and giant mussels seem like the same concept done better already.

the way localized resources work is definitely better for something as powerful as them.

but other things like stumbling upon an obsidian boulder and getting a little experience being a completely random 1 time spawn that ANYONE can find and can't be claimed/gamed is what exploration events should be.

What about these things? How many of these are there?
Are they still in the game? I haven't found another since w14
Maybe these things could give exp, and more like it should be made, perhaps? Idk
Maybe i misunderstand what you guys are asking for here.
