There are probably better, more elegant ways to do this, but this one is simple (even I have it working on Mac, which is a real feat if you knew me!):
Use Finder and go to "Applications"
Then go to "Utilities", and then click on "Terminal".

This will open up, well, your terminal window :p Most likely it will open in your main user directory. You need to tell it where to look for your amber files. For example, I can type cd games (cd means "change directory"), and then cd amber to get into my amber directory. It's best not to have any symbols in your directory names as sometimes they can get confused with other terminal commands. Once you are in the right directory, copy that java line. It should work just fine in the newest version of java.
