Do you use default run.bat to start Amber? Are you running other Java instances beside?

I am using run.bat, and no other Java instances. It is a new laptop, so there may be a setting that needs changing?

Edit run.bat with following
Code: Select all
start javaw -Xss512k -Xms512m -Xmx512m -jar hafen.jar -U https://game.havenandhearth.com/hres/ game.havenandhearth.com

If this won't work you need to set up swap space in your operating system. Pagefile in windows 10. Set it up to like 8gb, on SSD or fastest drive you have.

How (if possible(?)) do you get stuff like, for example, Borrow's or Roadsign's to show up in the mini-map in Amber ?

Could we get an alert sound for wolves considering that with the new change to animals ignoring KO protection getting aggroed by a wolf pack is absolutely 100% guaranteed death? Had a friend who just got killed within seconds after tabbing out standing still outside his wall for said seconds from a wolf pack.
Total misplay.

my client is freezing from time to time, i have to close the window and open another instance to play again, for a couple minutes.
There's no error message. The image just freezes, if i click randomly in the screen i can still hear my character walking. Anyone know what must be the cause?

if you are afking near aggressive animals....

Isn't there already an alert sound when aggressive animals pop up on the minimap? I know there is for boars, bears, etc. Pretty sure you get a wolf howl... at least in Amber. Haven't played much with the normal client recently.

Thank you everyone who helped me with this. It seems to be OK now, though it does slow down badly every so often, which is fixed if I log out and back in. The final run.bat ended up as:
start javaw -Xss1024m -Xms1024m -Xmx4g -jar hafen.jar -U https://game.havenandhearth.com/hres/ game.havenandhearth.com

It was the -Xmx4g that did it, so it isn't really a fix - just threw a load of memory at it until it gave up.

That's a "weirdly" high amount i think ... how many ram do you have installed and did you run a mem test on it?

I have 16GB. Tested the memory, no problems - the 4G came because I read an article on the Oracle site (I think) that showed it as an example, so I tried it to see if it worked.
