In options->camera settings there is a 'brighten view' slider that you can adjust

Yeah, can we please just take a moment to appreciate the guys that build and maintain these clients. The game is nearly impossible to play without them. Real heroes, these guys.

Make sure your using the Ender launcher(s) to start the game, as those auto update your local client if need be. (and that seems to be the case)
