I could just replace the javascript with one that sends me the markers, unencrypted, and no one would notice it.
So we can just go the easy route and save them in my database.

Those options make it possible to use your server for loading tiles only (edit: or for keeping tiles+encrypted data, not the html+js), anyone can host static page with a javascript, that you publish once, on their github pages or neocities or any other free static page hosting, so it will be impossible for you to modify javascript.

That's what has been done here viewtopic.php?f=49&t=51908, though using disgusting google map instead of free leafletjs and google spreadsheets instead of any free json storage. But at least it can be easily forked and trusted unlike your solution.

He did make his own map. At least as much as the Odditown map was made. Odditown did not write the Leaflet library and Shubla has probably double or tripled the lines of ugly code that Odditown has.

Actually i wonder who wrote the first version of the map (local session viewer?), some parts of the code are being around since W6 or even earlier

Alg is giving us the world map since W4 ... and before (W3/4) it was Mqrius from Twente/NL who released his source code early 2011 (27 Jan 2011) ...

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14949

from the thread:

I went ahead and switched over the Google Maps using Mqrius's front end (Thanks for releasing your source =])

All the maps sent to me within the last few days should be showing up on the new map.

Need to finish ironing out a few small bugs, then automatic processing should resume sometime tonight (as in EST)

Also, feel free to PM town Names and locations and I can try to add them in.

Enjoy!

- Way faster than odditown (at least if you live in Finland, preferably close to the server)

Despite server location (what worked pretty well for my ukrainian internet), works really slower for my browser.

Maybe your internet is just really slow?

The first one is odditown and the second one is my server.
As we can see, my server should be a lot faster.
The difference cannot be explained by ping alone, I think, because odditown has quite varying response speeds. (From 250ms to 1.5 seconds)
If the difference between 1st and 2nd one would be only ping, I think that the difference should be pretty constant between the requests.

No, i mean it's slower in the browser, not a server connection or loading time.
When i am setting a marker and then zoom in/out it is laggy as hell

Well what would you except from some bloated javascript library.
