Lag-0-Meter with a restart option

Postby joojoo1975 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 5:13 pm

Greets.

Was wonderin if there is a way to have the server detect LAG and be able to say, initiate a restart is the LAG gets at a critical point? Would this lead to less server crashes?

do you just have zero understanding of what causes lag and what causes crashes?

In the H&H office:

Jorbus, what does the LAG-0-METER say about it's lag level?

It's.. OVER 9000!!!

On topic, I think this is sort of what's in place anyway?

Lofty and Jorbus sounds like a pair out of one of those bad movies like turner and hooch :)

A lag-o-meter sounds absolutely silly.

should a bot that detects people in irc talking about getting close to taming... or is drop trading... or is traveling with a boat... and force a restart :O

Oh wait...

But on a serious note, i think its not possible since i believe loftar actually looks through the server files to make sure that rebooting is safe to do. So you won't wake up to see half your town missing due to a massive corruption error =P...

Or half your village spliced onto another village... that would be wicked.

+1000 to this ^.

And so I'm not entirely off topic, if we restarted every time it got really laggy, we would reach as much down time due to restarts in a week as we have had in crashes over the past month. I'd rather play a laggy game than no game at all, or getting caught in a continuous cycle of down, laggy, down, laggy during peak hours.

Or somehow fix the lag, and stop whining. Problem solved.
And as for those who say "Can you pay for the server". Quit shooting your own foot because there's quite a lot of people on the net who'd like to pay to host this game.
