land grab complaint

Postby mikal1129 » Sat Aug 08, 2009 10:22 pm

some1 just claimed a huge plot of land next to ring of brogar where i was trying to build a decent settlement

to the point i think the land claiming system should be more limited to give newer players a chance to settle down without fear of a more experienced player claiming your home

i suggest limiting the land claiming to a things that the owner built themselves and preventing claims of resources and empty land

Delamore claimed it because we're using it to train a bunch of newbies we just invited to the game. It's not permanent, it's just to give the newbies their own place to play for now.

Also, preventing claims of resources and empty land is retarded. The point is to claim the land, then build on it, to prevent someone from fucking with your stuff in-between when you build it and when you claim it. Otherwise, anyone can go in and wreck the ground and cut your trees and dig up mud everywhere and there'd be nothing you could do to stop it. The whole point of claiming is to take a chunk of land and prevent others from messing with it.

ps: what would happen to abandoned cabins? Don't want anyone to move in to them? Why not?

I believe that land claims should be limited to one claim per account, all alt characters should be allowed to enter the area as if they own it associated to the account, named after the character who sets the claim.

@Caradon:
Aside from the incentive of letting alts always access one's main's claim, there's nothing to stop people from making a new account for each alt, and that incentive goes away the moment the devs implement multiple kin lists/groups.

There's no real way to make it so that land claims are limited in some way without peeving a few people.

In essence, claiming land is hard to do without Yeomanry. If you wish to get a house without people doing all these things to you, move away from Brodgar, it's where people experiment when they're newbish, so there's bound to be a few things that go wrong. With the new influx of newbies it's even more of a chaotic place.

I just hope that most of them don't migrate to Dun Goonheim. Or even OLD goonheim.

why wouldn't you want people to migrate to old goonheim? it's abandoned.

Oh I've heard rumors around Bottleneck about Old Goonheim slowly rising back to power. It could be a rumor, who knows.
Also, to Peter, the new increase of manpower from the newbie immigration may cause a few power-hungry thoughts in the goon's mind. If I were leader of a once destroyed village and got tons of manpower, I'D destroy those who destroyed me!

Uh... You seem confused.

Goons abandoned old Goonheim to create Gooncastle, which currently has plenty of power and is fairly well-populated and all that. We don't want to bring back Old Goonheim, we like Gooncastle just fine. Our current location marked on the maplib as Dun Goonheim, at the far north. Old Goonheim is abandoned, and the land still belongs to the old town that JTG made ages ago. Also, Gooncastle is for goons -- /v/ and facepunch aren't going to join our town, and they're not really part of our "manpower". /v/ has their own town (Brofrica), and Facepunch is probably planning to make their own as well.

We just brought newbies in because the game needs more newbies, and helped them get started to make it easier for them and give them incentive to stay.
