Agility and the new update

Postby Niacide » Mon Dec 27, 2010 10:35 am

Now, this game by nature is not noob friendly. But this change to the combat system is really upsetting, making the game even less friendly to people starting off.

Having played this game off and on for about half a year now I am still very much a Noob.

After I decided to get Melee combat up, so that I would stop being raped by boars, I started to really enjoy the game. Killing stuff is fun. So naturally i put all my stats into melee (which probably was terrible idea because unarmed is 100x better in pvp).

While I am still pretty new to the skill, I have put 74 points into Melee combat. This enabled me to kill boars and deer and withstand a single hit from a bear. but now, because I have low agility I can not fight anything stronger than a fox. It is in many ways insulting that the developers would take the only thing that I really enjoyed about the game away from me. Because I left my home in search of a mine, I have no wheat or any way of gaining agility short of killing hundreds of rabbits.

To sum things up, This has pretty much completely ruined the game for me. while I can not ask them to change this new feature just for me, I do suggest that they try to conceder how new radical updates affect new players as well as old ones.

are you wearing armor? i don't get it, the armor alone should allow you to take a couple hits from a bear.

The Agility of the bear fucks with his cool down while increasing the cool down of the bear, I believe.

Please keep in mind that this a game in the alpha stage. Theoretically you're not a player, just a playtester. Plus you're playing for free. New updates are planned for the long run, even if it makes things complicated for current players temporarily. Temporarily as in until everything gets a reset and a new world is started. No, that won't happen soon.

We always said it's best to balance stats, so... :/

Balanced stats won't help when all are equally low, as it tends to be with newer characters....

I really think hunting needs to be completely changed. The recent changes to the combat system, both in this update and the previous one has really made fighting animals a chore. While balancing for PvP is most important in a game like this, 99% of combat is versus animals, so that shouldn't be ignored.

That means nothing.

First of all the "Playing for free" thing, the devs made a really cool game and are letting us play for free. Pretty awesome on their part. I don't see how it puts updates above criticism, there shouldn't even be a "Critique and Ideas forum" then as long as game is free or is in alpha mode.

Secondly, your definition of temporarily invalidates its justification: A) The world being non-permanent doesn't mean that the game mechanics should be shit or that the said shit should be above criticism. B) It doesn't make things "complicated", it has outright made hunting((a large and crucial part of the gameplay)) futile for a large chuck of players in turn handicapping them in many other regards. C) First you say its okay because it makes things hard for current players but is their for the long run then you say it is okay because it will go away after the reset, huh? D) EVEN IF it stays for the long run then it will keep the mechanics shitty for the long run, I really don't see how you are justifying the update with this.

In conclusion you are basically saying "You don't have the right to criticise" rather than justifying the update and the fact that this forum exists proves your stand wrong.

Q.E.D

As for the update, I agree with OP. Yes, this game is not noob friendly, but it should't be forgotten that a game grows with noobs, the current update in regards to the AGI stat((and the sling too, but they say its temp so I wouldn't inclue that. Yet.)) is illogical from the perpsective of the kind of range of armour choices the game provides. I am a most noobish player and wear basic leather armour which gives me -14 AGI. WAT? This may make combat tricky and "more challenging" where you have to make hard choices and perks come with scarifices, for the experienced but for starters it completely rules it out combat. For us, ranged hunting is the new Swimming. Only that it is a very crucil part of the game unlike swimming.

But even disregarding noobs, the devs seem to be following the line of RPGs where equipment come with handiness and hinderances, but this game doesn't offer any significant range of worthwhile armours unlike RPGs not like it is a bad thing given the previous system but with this update yes it does. Most level pf players except the higher end have only two worthwhile choices when in combat: Wear armour and not wear armour; as there is no armour that only gives an AGI debuff that doesn't make combat futile availabe to them.

Also, the entire fucking point of having an open alpha is so that players can evaluate and criticize the game.

Agreed, Monu, your wisdom of 17 posts really enlightens us to listen to things you say as if you were an overly experienced player.
