Are all mines considered to be set in the same space?
Like if I could go inside my ironmine and then clear a path to my other mine wich is nearby.
If not, its a suggestion.

each mine is a pocket, inaccessible from any other point underground.

W4 - Quahog

Which is awesome as hell.
No, really - just think about it.

yeah.

would be awesome, but there'd have to be "must be mine inside" and when there is walls built, it makes it harder to dig under

Currently the way world works is that there are 2 world layers. There is the aboveground world, and there is the 'underground' Cave world (and caves ONLY). These are 2 layers.

I believe what he is saying is that 'what if' we had mines as another layer that you could actually connect 2 points to each other. I'm not sure if they intend to move in this direction in development, but they do eventually seem to want mines to be more dangerous, fi you mine too far, cave in, have to make supports, that kind of stuff. It would be nice now that we can do walls again if you did have to worry about this, would change things to make 'mine villages' and villages with just warps to mines totally different to attack and would be fun, whether you have a mine or not could also become a very big deal.

I believe however that as of current mine mechanics "Just dig into the black" supporting another layer of this magnitude would be a real crazy thing, I mean it could work like aboveworld but atm would be very lackluster as well, you wouldn't notice any changes except that you ran into mine, 'yay' It's kinda boring this way. Reinforcing walls properly and such should be a big part of mine warfare if this comes into play one day as I somewhat hope it does.

For example you dig down, cave out a nice area where you would actually use as a 'village' part, brickwall it, then dig more. Claiming underground space could actually be a priority, you could dig one way, iron suddenly turns to copper "WOAH!", you hit someone else's mine, or just this part is copper. I'd very much like it if nodes ran this way, you'd have to see what type of ore you're digging, they should be colored different at this point IMO, also we should get a way to 'mousewheel' by type.

I say YES to underground geology:
- Rivers and caves
- Multiple minerals
- New fauna and flora

and dwarf fortresses:
- Player made dungeons
- Possibility to dig holes anywhere
- Brickwalls have the option to have an underground lvl for a small cost to prevent diggers.
- Minecarts!
- Stone houses
- etc

Even though I dont have any of those, I already started building my dwarf fortress underground on newly found iron mine.
