Alternate Sound Pack

Postby eql » Thu Aug 13, 2009 11:32 am

Ok, im tired of having to play without music in the background just because the games sounds are SO LOUD.

Is there a way we can change the current sounds or atleast access the files to adjust their volume.
has anyone already made a sound pack that the rest of the community is not aware of?

The only possible ways to accomplishing this right now is to download the client source, change the def path (All content from http://sh.seatribe.se/res/ must be downloaded though (Sorry Jorb, I was stupid)) and recompile it with apacheant. Although I'm not sure if there's an alternative server for the database to download the textstrings (And a seperate char/auth/mapserver), and the files are packed :)

If you'd want to only replace one file, you have to find a method to replace temporary generated files (They are numerated from 0 to 5000 or something) or write a hook for winsock 1 and replace the location of the loaded SFX files.

It's just too much work to distribute it to others.

If you're running vista, just turn off the sound for H&H.

The sounds are choppy for me and every now and then it bugs and starts repeating itself annoyingly.

Is there anywhere else I can get the .res files?

Update:
From loftars most helpful advice http://code.google.com/p/haven-client/wiki/AudioModSupport?ts=1252026759&updated=AudioModSupport

I've started to write up a basic utility to convert ogg sounds into haven .res format. http://code.google.com/p/haven-client/source/browse/openHavenClient/src/openhaven/util/HavenAudioResMaker.java
It seems to generate the correct format for the moment but needs to be turned into something that modders can just click a button and run.

I'm still working on creating a patch to the haven client so that it will accept client supplied resources without needing exactly the same version as what the devs deploy, and once I've made it Loftar may or may not accept it.

But if all goes well, within the next week or two it should be possible to put custom sound packs into the game.

I'm a programmer and not an artist, so if anyone's super keen on replacing the sounds, then here's your chance. Start collecting the sound files you want replaced and get them into the ogg format.

The problem is that all sounds are saved at a very high record volume for some reason.

Audacity does magic to revoluming things.
